The Intersect™ reservoir simulator empowers reservoir engineers to tackle today’s most complex subsurface challenges with confidence.
Combining leading science, superior performance, and flexible gridding, the Intersect simulator delivers fast, scalable modeling for every reservoir type—whether it is a mature oil and gas fields, appraisal/exploration fields, unconventionals, or new energy applications like CO2 storage.
Seamlessly bridging data from geology, geophysics, geomechanics, and production engineering, the Intersect simulator enables smarter, more integrated workflows. It helps teams simulate reservoir behavior with greater accuracy, and in a faster, more cost-effective manner than ever before.

Key release highlights
Black oil initialization for hydraulic fracture simulations now available!
Unlock fast, accurate hydraulic fracture modeling with new support for initialization by black oil enumeration for embedded discrete fracture modeling (EDFM). Pressure, saturation, and other dynamic properties can now be independently initialized within the EDFM domain without impacting the properties in the matrix model.
Model biochemical reactions with greater accuracy for hydrogen storage cases
Confidently simulate key biochemical processes in underground hydrogen storage (UHS), using the double Monod model. This method captures microbial growth response to substrate availability, enabling more realistic, science-driven predictions of reservoir behavior.
Improved performance for hydraulic fracture cases using multiscale
The enhanced multiscale pressure solver now handles transmissibility contrasts between matrix and EDFM fracture cells more efficiently, delivering significantly faster performance. In field-scale hydraulic fracture models, this enhancement has shown speed-ups of up to four times in tested scenarios.
Key enhancements
Performance
- Transport coefficients are now supported in full-GPU, and should see acceleration. This feature can be used to modify component mobilities, helping in accurately representing fine-scale mechanisms on a coarse grid.
Geomechanics coupling
- The direct coupling option for the Intersect simulator and the Visage™ finite-element geomechanics simulator now also supports basic local grid refinement (LGR). The grids used for the flow and stress field simulations should generally match, but an LGR can also be used in the Intersect and Visage simulators only.
Physics and CO2 storage
- To support workflows such as geothermal and CO2 storage, the constant pressure aquifer and gassifer models have been extended to support thermal models along with existing support for black oil, brine, and compositional.
- In some situations, it is necessary to perform a three-phase simulation even though no oil is expected to exist during the simulation. The new CreateOilSaturationFunctions field enables you to provide only gas and water saturation functions and gas-water capillary pressure data. The simulator then generates oil saturation functions and capillary pressure data internally.
- Gas plant tables can now be used for thermal and isothermal simulations with component solubility in water (CSIW). This is applicable for situations with CO2 injection into depleted reservoirs, where thermal simulation of the hydrocarbon production period with gas plant tables is required.
- For advanced thermal models, thepower law mixing method for heat conductivity has been extended to support the presence of solids. The anisotropic temperature-dependent table has also been extended to model solid heat conductivity as a function of temperature, and three new properties have been created to report it for each direction.
Field management
- The energy consumption and emissions framework inside Field Management is now compatible with decline curve cases. In addition, this same framework can now also be applied to restart cases.
Usability
-
- A new field has been added to the Recurrent3DReport node to specify custom date/time reports. Using an existing Frequency selection, these dates will be added to the current 3D report frequency. An additional Frequency field setting named ONLY_SELECTED_TIMES has been added that generates 3D reports only at the dates specified in the SelectedTimesfield.

- A new property set named GEOTHERMAL has been added to the XYPlotSummaryReport and Recurrent3DReport nodes. The GEOTHERMAL property set includes commonly requested well, field, group, and 3D properties in geothermal cases.
- Several updates have been made to improve Intersect simulator documentation :
- The User Guide has been enhanced by adding practical example snippets to most node descriptions .
- The ‘Rock Modelling’ section in the Technical Description has been reorganized to focus on workflows and modeling assumptions.
- An updated example for ‘Low salinity waterflooding’ has been created to better illustrate the setup of this feature and the expected results.
