Cradle CFD 2023.2

Cradle CFD 2023.2 as a Multiphysics Computational Fluid Dynamics solution to enhance your productivity for designing, researching, and manufacturing. The packages of scFLOW, scSTREAM, HeatDesigner, SC/Tetra, PICLS, CADthru and scPOST are all integrated into Cradle CFD.

Enhancements of Battery Modeling solution
This version introduced multiple enhancements to battery modeling solutions to provide faster and more robust computations, easier inputs, and higher accuracy for the P2D model and the Equivalent Circuit Model (a.k.a. RC model).  One of the significant improvements is the current calculations for P2D model showing 200x speed up in one of the examples, reducing the total computation time from 1101 seconds to 57 seconds.  The RC model now supports more input parameters and controls such as a resistance, R, time constant, T (=RC), a table input for model parameters considering temperature dependency, sub-stepping for time progress, and Joule heating calculation based on battery voltage transient characteristics.  Anisotropic thermal conductivity can now be easily specified for both the P2D and the RC model.
Enhancement of Topology Optimization
Detailed settings about regularization (filter and projection), interpolation function (momentum and heat) and Krylov iterative method can be specified using GUI. As a result, a better design that provides a better performance suitable for a specific condition can be easily obtained.

Performance Up of Overset Mesh
The performance of overset mesh analysis, particularly with a broad background region compared to a component region, is significantly improved, providing multiple speed-ups in overall computation.

Enhancement of Simplified Rotor Model (VBM – Virtual Blade Model)
A huge enhancement enables detailed modeling of rotating blades.

A Virtual Blade Model (VBM) is a function to model the effect of rotor blades as a momentum source without actually modeling them in 3D.  This function is now enhanced by accounting for Azimuth angle dependency of blades, Mach number dependencies, and a trim setting.  As a result, the new VBM can provide a more accurate prediction of the momentum source by the blades in a practical manner.
